I want to start reading again.
Since graduating from college 7 months ago, I haven’t read a quality piece of literature. I’m so utterly ashamed of myself.
You would think that with all the free time I have, I would be completing books every week. That is not the case.
My sister finished a book last week called “Americanah” by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie(Go Nigeria!). It is a New York Times Best Seller, it has been named one of the top 10 books of 2013, and has been also named ‘Best Book of 2013’ by BBC. My sister, my BFF, is one of the most intelligent people I know. She is also a writer, author, and quality literature enthusiast. Now if she can give a RAVING review of this novel, dedicate a facebook status to it, AND call it easily one of the best books she has ever had the pleasure of reading…then I must read it. Soon.
During my realization that reading is fundamental to lifelong learning, I thought about different ways to read more. Paperback? Online subscriptions? E-reader? I think e-readers are really cool, but there are so many in the market that I’m slightly scared to choose and pay that much for one.
Here is where you(my audience) come in. What’s your favorite way to read? Do you enjoy the traditional nature of flipping pages, or do you prefer the convenience of an e-reader? Let me know what you think!
The first book I’m going to read after this post will be ‘Americanah’. I’ll be sure to do a quick write-up of my review on the novel after I finish it.
My challenge to you is this: read with me. The world is losing intelligence and vocabulary with each passing day. Let’s get it back. Crack open a great read. You’ll feel better…and smarter.
Reading is fundamental.
